20 Proverbs 27 Personal Management

JMD Devotional 20 Proverbs 27 Personal Management

Vs 23 Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, and look well to your herds;
Vs 24 For riches are not forever; does a crown endure to all generations?
Vs 25 When the hay is gone, the tender grass shows itself, and herbs of the mountain are gathered in,
Vs 26 The lambs will be for your clothing, and the goats [will furnish you] the price of a field.
Vs 27 And there will be goats' milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, and for the maintenance of your maids.

Imagine the fear in the heart of the farmer who runs out of food for his livestock in the middle of winter! When he has done all that he can, and has exhausted what he cultivated, tender grass sprouts and herbs emerge to satisfy the need. From seemingly feeble sources God provides for our daily need, enough for ourselves and our households, but we are required to do our part. The tender love and discipline of God are so elegantly displayed in this passage: meditate on this!

Implied Disciplines:
Careful management of one’s affairs.
Diligent preparation, setting aside resources for ‘Winter’ (famine, drought, unemployment, disaster, etc.)
Maintaining a rational outlook on life. (Don’t over-spiritualize!)
Resourcefulness; waste not; be flexible, versatile.
Be diligent, do the right things at the proper times; be self-disciplined.

Dear God,
Thank You for your tender care and ample provision! Please spur and nudge me to do my part at the appropriate times. Help me to manage my household well as a witness and testimony to display godly principles at work. May all of your people prosper and rejoice in your Lordship!
Amen
