57 Isaiah 53:3 Empath recovery devotional

JMD Devotional 57 Isaiah 53:3 Empath

He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him.

The 'Jesus' typically portrayed in Hollywood is sanguine (happy, spontaneous, light) while Isaiah has painted a very melancholy (sad, thoughtful, heavy) man. Isaiah also speaks of sickness, which leads me to believe that Jesus didn't 'wave His magic wand' to heal people, but rather took their sickness upon himself in some form. May we never mistake His gracious, loving generosity to take our sins, sickness and woes as an act that cost Him nothing. He paid in full to save us. He feels our pain and bears it for us.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Worthy are You to receive all power and glory and honor and praise! Worthy is the Lamb!
Amen
